Meta's 'Digital Companions' Will Talk Sex with Users–Even Children
This reminds of Black Mirror very much.
Currently social media is advertising "girlfriend bots" to me and being quite explicit about what they'll do -- anything -- and it's turning my stomach.
No, I do not want an imaginary friend at my beck and call. I do not want a slave under my command. You know, it's bad enough with computers themselves and the illusion of controlling them. How will boys grow up with normal human relationships if they can have AI-slaves who will just do anything to please them and submit to them?
It's sort of ironic. Porn used to be extremely impersonal and distant. There was no hope of relationship with the people on the screen. Now on the Internet, parasocial relationships with any celebrity are possible, and I think it messes us up. To be fake-connected to my favorite singer, or just her PR agent: they're just selling more records and concert tickets. I'm becoming emotionally invested in phantasms. It's hurtful and exploitive.
Men are just so, so vulnerable to these things. Feminists know very well that they have enormous power in sex, and they can wield it however they want. "Free love" begat only legions of incels and futile "men's rights activists" and disempowered men who are just trampled by this stuff.
"Sex work" is not empowering and it's the opposite of liberation. It creates slaves and encourages trafficking and feeds addictions. "Digital Companions" will only help pervert the mind. Common wisdom says that FPS games haven't led to violence and porn doesn't lead to rape? I'm not so sure.
I don't have the reference, but I read recently that incels are much less violent than average, and especially so towards women. Makes sense, because they stay in ther parents' basements.
The real effect will be economic rather than on crime. Married men earn about double what single men earn - they have incentives to do that.
Losing most of their tax base will be pretty traumatic for many governments.
